Comfort Food - Day 9

Tuesday, May 8th, 2007

When you have a bad day at work getting out of the office can help brighten your day. And who wants to eat light on a bad day? Comfort food is all that you need. The best comfort food is mashed potatoes and a really yummy comfort food is the Kentucky Fried Chicken Mashed Potatoe Bowl. I will be the first to say that I think they over charge on this meal, but it’s just so yummy!

Weekend Eatings - Day 6 and Day 7

Sunday, May 6th, 2007

Sometimes weekends offer a reprieve from the plaguing question -”What do I want for lunch?”. Doing weekend chores, catching up on to do lists or getting out with the family can usually lead to some different eating out ideas or eating at home can be an inexpensive option too. But this weekend I ate two new lunches.

The first from a place we all know — McDonalds. As much as I try not to eat at the most popular fast food restaurant, my accounting register says that I eat at McDonalds more frequently than any where else. McDonalds are located every other block, in every city or every highway exit. They have truly made sure they are seen everywhere. I eat breakfast there, because its right on the way to work. They’ve got a wide variety dollar menu, but it’s still cheaper in the long run to buy a value meal. For other lunch ideas they even give you a suggestion list on their website.

The Dollar Menu Lunch
$1 Spicy McChicken Sandwich
$1 Small Iced Tea

Total Cost: $2.21

A not so well-known restaurant near my house is Chicago Times. They offer chicago style food in the middle of Colorado. I’ve eaten their pizzas before and they are quite scrumptious. For lunch with my family I had yet another hot dog, but this time it was not an $8 hot dog it was only $2.49. The oddest thing about their Vienna dog is the relish. It reminds me of kryptonite because I think it may glow in the dark with it’s flourescent green. The green just stands out among the other colors placed on this hot dog - red tomatoes, yellow mustard, white onions inside the bread bun on top of the grilled to perfection brown hot dog.

The Chicago Style Vienna Hot Dog
The Colorful Hot Dog
1 Bag of Cool Ranch Dorritos
1 32oz Cherry Pepsi
Total Cost: $5.64

Tacos and Fries? Day 4

Thursday, May 3rd, 2007

A newer fast food restaurant has sprouted up in our area. It’s called Del Taco. I first learned about them when someone brought in a bag of tacos for breakfast. I think they are like the new and improved Taco Bell. Or at least they price their tacos the way Taco bell used too. If you don’t get a drink you could probably eat for under $2.

Something that sets them apart from most other fast food mexican restaurants is they serve fries with their combos. It’s a funny combination, but they aren’t too bad together. I think their combos are pretty filling. I tried a combo that I hadn’t had before today.

DelTaco

The #5 Combo
1 Chicken Soft Taco
1 Big Chicken Taco
Fries
32 Oz Iced Tea

Total Cost: $5.60

Now, I’m going to rant about drink cup sizes. You can’t say small, medium or large anymore, because what means small to one place mean large to another. The representation of size needs to be standardized again! We should write our congressman! No wonder why when you ask for a small amount of sour cream or a large helping of spaghetti sauce you never know what you are going to get. This random cup size for a medium drink has made our world haywire!
