A Salad Creation - Day 8

Monday, May 7th, 2007

“What do I want for lunch?”, I ask myself.
“A hamburger?”, I suggest.
“No”, I reply.
“A chicken sandwich?”, I suggest again.
“Boring!”, I sigh.
“How about another hot dog?”, I say as I throw my hands up giving up on finding an answer.
“No I’m thinking something on the lighter side. Let’s go for a salad.”
Finally the answer I’d been waiting for.

The decision was made and I also opted to go somewhere I’d been before, but this time for something new - Wendy’s. They have four different big salads. I will have to try them all.

What should I eat for Lunch? Day 3

Wednesday, May 2nd, 2007

Okay, I cheated…instead of asking myself this question today I took a suggestion. If you think about it though suggestions aren’t too bad they allow you to reserve brain power for a later date when this question comes up again.

Salads are becoming all the rage. Not only are they healthy, but they can offer different ways of tantalizing your taste buds that you won’t find by eating a hamburger or chicken nuggets. I jumped on the suggestion of a Taco Salad from Qdoba. It’s a place I actually haven’t been before, but their Taco Salad was said to be the best taco salad that they ever had.

Getting out of my car to go and get food again was the least of my worries. The parking lot for the particular Qdoba was like visiting a Walmart around Christmas time. I finally found a parking spot though and made my way into the restaurant. It had an order here/pay there type line as well, but walking in the door I was exactly where I needed to be in the line.

There were a few selections for the taco salad: strictly vegetarian, steak, chicken and mango. I opted for chicken, but next time I think I’ll try the mango (an opportunity to add fruit to my diet).

The line moved quickly where I was asked if I wanted sour cream and cheese. After my $8 hot dog I guess the $7.24 I paid for my taco salad and drink wasn’t near so shocking. I find it funny, the closer you get to natural food the more expensive it gets. I think it should be the reverse, less need to put chemicals (or whatever those unpronouncable words found in the ingredients section are) means fewer dollars. Alas supply and demand!

If I worked closer to where all the food joints were I may consider walking and spare myself the parking lot turmoil, but all in all I enjoyed my lunch and found something I’ll eat again.
